Sriguru Saipreeth Swamiji mentioned to His devotees that each and everyone of us has a special duty in this world. Some duty may be major and some may be minor. We are not living for ourselves as we are living for others. By helping others, we will get a special kind of happiness and that particular happiness is our ultimate bliss for our existence in this world.
In Ramayana, Sampati’s wing was completely destroyed by the scorching rays of the sun as he was covering and protecting his brother, Jatayu.
Due to his broken wing, Sampati had fallen to the Vindhaya mountain. There, he spoke with a rishi by the name of Chandrama. Weeping, Sampati had said that he wished to throw himself from the mountain peak and end his life.
The rishi restrained him and said, “Although I am able to give your wings back, I will not do so, as you are destined to render a service to Rama, and at that time, your wings will be restored.”
The rishi told Sampati that bodily sufferings must be borne by everyone as a reaction to their own past deeds. One should nevertheless realize that the real self is different from the body. Without being overly attached to the body, one should try to fix the mind on the Supreme Lord, with whom all beings have an eternal relationship.
Thus Sampati should not lament for his broken body.
